Stijn Ciske Buschgens
I’m Stijn Ciske Buschgens: musician, producer and mixing/mastering engineer. I’ve been mixing and mastering for other artists since 2021, from my studio in Tilburg, the Netherlands.
Mostly dreampop, shoegaze, art rock, indie, post-punk, ambient and ska, but I’m open to anything. I listen too widely to think in genres (jazz, hip-hop, classical, metal), so every band is its own project. What I’m best at: layered music with a lot of ambience and depth. Dreamy and melancholic.
My starting point is simple. A good mix or master strengthens what is already in the song. I don’t paste my own sound onto your music; I look for what the song needs.
I’m on stage myself as guitarist and multi-instrumentalist with Straydog, and I graduated as a guitarist from Rock City Institute in Eindhoven. I also spent a long time coaching and guiding bands at a mental health care facility.

I mix analogue and digital tools. The studio has an AKAI X-150D reel-to-reel and Yamaha HS7 monitors, and for reverbs I often use Neunaber, a guitar-effects brand Slowdive uses too. I switch between FL Studio and Ableton. FL Studio is an unusual choice for mixing, but its mixer and out-of-the-box features are exactly what help me work out very specific ideas.
One track, a whole album or someone to think along about the production: from a subtle bit of tape saturation to a completely different approach, it starts with the feeling the song wants to convey.
So I always start with a conversation: what are your ideas, and does the atmosphere and direction I hear in the song match them? The more you share, the better I can translate the music into the mix, master or production.
That’s why I always ask for reference tracks, with a short note per reference on what exactly appeals to you. Anything goes: from a specific snare sound to an overall vibe.

Does sending a demo commit me to anything?
No. Sending a demo or rough mix costs nothing and is not an assignment. I listen, give honest advice and we discuss what your music needs. An assignment only starts once you deliver the tracks for the mix or master.
How do you deliver your files?
As WAV or AIFF files (44.1, 48, 88.2 or 96 kHz), all with the same sample rate and length, starting from bar 1. Preferably dry, without reverb or effects, unless an effect is essential to the sound. Include a rough mix, put everything in one zip file and send it via swisstransfer.com to info@ciskestudios.com. With your assignment you’ll receive a short delivery guide (pdf) with all the details.
Which references should you send along?
One to three reference tracks, each with a short note about what exactly appeals to you: the sound, the atmosphere, the balance, a specific instrument or a particular feeling. The more specific, the better I can translate your music.
How many tracks are included in the starting rate?
Mixing from € 100 applies to a song with up to 15 tracks. More tracks, extensive editing (such as pitch or timing correction, drum editing) or extra work are discussed beforehand; you get a price before I start.
How many revisions are included?
Two revision rounds for a mix, one for a master. You deliver your feedback per round in one list, within seven days of receiving the version. An extra revision round costs € 50.
How long does it take?
Normally I deliver within seven days of receiving all files and information. Need it faster? A rush job is sometimes possible, depending on my schedule, at a 50% surcharge.
What do you receive and how do you pay?
A stereo WAV file in 24-bit; an instrumental mix or master is included on request. You pay afterwards: after the work you receive a payment request or invoice with a payment term of fourteen days.
